About the artist: John Shoemaker is originally from Pennsylvania but currently resides in Asheboro, NC where he operates his own glassblowing studio, Apothecary Architecture. He began blowing glass in 2008 while earning his bachelor’s degree of Fine Arts in glass at the Tyler School of Art at Temple University.
His work “appropriates design elements derived from antique and scientific glass forms, seeking to elevate these features to create a modern aesthetic and conceptual content.” Combining elements of hand-blown glass, woodworking, and metal fabrication, he uses “precision technique and alchemical surfaces” to align his art making process with the scientific method.
